Timbaland launched an AI entertainment company called Stage Zero, aiming to pioneer a new genre he calls A-Pop.
The label’s first artist (rolls eyes) is “TaTa”, an AI-generated persona created using the Suno platform. The producer describes her as a “living, learning, autonomous music artist.”
Timbaland faced backlash for using an independent producer K Fresh’s beat without giving him credit or consent to train his AI system. Legally, the situation is murky, there are no clear laws yet around consent, credit, or compensation for artists whose work is used to train.
But others worry it’s a slippery slope toward devaluing human artistry and normalizing copyright infringement.
